As my girls’ were getting ready to see Disney’s “Frozen On Ice” tonight, I started to reminisce about a childhood filled with beautiful memories…….drinking water from the outside faucet in the summer, playing kickball in the street, catching fireflies, going home as the street lights came on, lying in the field at night while stargazing with my best friends.
When did that all stop? When did it get difficult? When did we forget to ask the most popular question of the year? When did we stop asking “Do you want to build a snowman?”
As time flew by, we grew into teenagers, young adults, adults, parents and grandparents. We forgot how to build a snowman – life just got in the way. Some of us forgot who we were…lost in ourselves. Relationships melted away like melting snowmen. Best friends now live in our hearts but not in our lives. The easy life just a breath a way.
Do you want to build a snowman? It’s one of the biggest musical hits right now. It asks one of the biggest questions. Do we remember what it means? Do we remember its importance? Did time go by too quickly? Is that why we forget to ask?
This song is more than just a touching part of a movie. It was written as a message to all of us. To help us remember. Read the lyrics closely. See how relevant it is to you and your life.
Do you want to build a snowman?
Come on, let’s go and play
I never see you anymore
Come out the door
It’s like you’ve gone away
We used to be best buddies
And now we’re not
I wish you would tell me why
Do you want to build a snowman
It doesn’t have to be a snowman
Do you want to build a snowman?
Or ride our bike around the hall?
I think some company is overdue…
I’ve started talking to
The pictures on the walls
It gets a little lonely
All these empty rooms
Just watching the hours tick by
Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock
Please, I know you’re in there
People are asking where you’ve been
They say have courage
And I’m trying to
I’m right out here for you
Please let me in
We only have each other
It’s just you and me
What are we gonna do?
Do you want to build a snowman?
– Kristen Anderson Lopez & Robert Lopez-
Life gets so busy and time flies by so quickly. Sometimes we forget the simple things. Take a breath, find time for yourself, reconnect with a treasured friend, mend a broken relationship…it’s never too late…..never has too much time passed. Find the child within and ask yourself or a friend……
